Behind Every Curtain

I've never seen Marcel Dzama's artwork in person so I was super-excited to check out his exhibit at the David Zwirner gallery.

In addition to his watercolor and root beer characters painted on old piano-player scrolls, there were dioramas, spinning sculptures, and a merry-go-round with chess-piece creatures made out of old tin cans.

The icing on the cake, though: the premier screening of his film A Game of Chess, an epic battle based on, well, a game of chess and starring a new cast of scary ballerina soldiers.
